This google slides presentation covers the period following the U.S. Civil War through the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. It can be use by teacher for direct instruction, or for students to review and take notes. Extensive speaker notes are included to supplement the slides.
It begins with reconstruction begun under Lincoln and Andrew Johnson, and then followed by the congressional reconstruction period. It describes the racial terrorism and segregation period that followed after reconstruction, the amendments to the constitution (13th, 14th, 15th). It moves on to the fight and protests for civil rights by women and African American, eventually led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other notable African Americans, culminating with the Civil Rights Acts of 1964. Additional detail about MLK's biography is included in the speaker notes.
