Real and Nonsense Fluency Word Lists (from CVC through multisyllabic)

This product contains 45 sequential phonics word lists containing both real and nonsense words for each list. It begins with short vowels and works through blends, silent e, vowel teams, r controlled vowels, special sounds, common phonogram endings, prefixes, and suffixes.

Uses:

*To help students who struggle with the nonsense word fluency on DIBELS
*In class assessments
*Grouping students for phonics lessons
*Send home each day for students to practice
*Setting and assessing IEP goals

I send these home with my students and have them pass them off when they feel ready, then send home the next one.

I work as a special education teacher and I use this all the time to come up with their present levels and future goals. For example, to show present levels I would write "John can read CVC words with 95% accuracy. He can read CVCE words with 55% accuracy." I can then make a goal of, "Given a list of 20 real and nonsense CVCE words, John will read with 95% accuracy, 2/3 times."

It's excellent to show the parents exactly what phonics they've mastered and what the next step is.
