Description

In order to build background knowledge of the world around them, early learners can greatly benefit from instruction on vocabulary and real-world experiences. I hope that you and your learners enjoy this fun game to review many of the terms and concepts having to do with community helpers! Students will choose one of the following community helpers to serve as their playing piece for the game:

  • Doctor
  • Mail Carrier
  • Firefighter
  • Farmer
  • Teacher

To play and win the game, students must gather and name various tools (vehicles, items from toolkits, and the workplace) that correspond with their community helper. It is a great way to assess students' knowledge of various community helpers and their ability to use vocabulary they have learned in conversation!

When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.
Understand that each successive number name refers to a quantity that is one larger.
Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.
