The Frog Scientist Reading and Study Guide is designed to help middle school science students read and understand the non-fiction book by Pamela Turner. The book is part of the “Scientists in the Field” series and gives kids a real-life look into the daily life of a scientists and his hard-working graduate students as they conduct field work and laboratory analysis. This book particularly focuses on the scientific method, explaining much of the terminology in a real-life experiment. This study guide can be used to hold students accountable, as individuals or a group of readers, to understand the science in the book, such as the use of a control group and manipulated variable, and it also addresses the effect of humans on the environment, as in pesticide use.It includes opportunities for students to answer open-ended questions (‘Why should we care about what's happening to frogs?") and content specific questions (“What is the difference between a manipulated variable and a responding variable?”) It includes a 11-page packet for students and an answer key for the teacher with extension ideas for project presentations.
