Writing – Ages 5-10, NZ levels 1 and 2

This A3 mat includes all the important aspects of the literacy progressions, national standards, curriculum, essential spelling lists and a few of my own learning goals for writing. It is now separated into curriculum levels making it super easy to create a clear picture of where the child is at. The mats are fantastic as an assessment tool and very motivating. It even has the essential spelling word levels and a few things that are not in the curriculum such as knowing what book to use and what pen to use. They are great for boys that lack motivation during writing time. As with all of our mats, this resource is a great tool for developing student agency.

Reading – Ages 5-11, NZ levels 1 and 2

This mat is upgraded from my previous one to now include all aspects of the literacy progressions, national standards, curriculum and a few of my own learning goals for reading. It now is separated into curriculum levels to make it super easy to create a clear picture of where the child is at. They even have a few things that are not in the curriculum such as computer reading skills. Easy for kids and parents to follow!

TIPS FOR USAGE:

Each student has a laminated mat on his or her desk. At the start of the year I access each child and put stickers on the skills they have mastered. From there it is easy. The children put a mark with vivid on the goal their group is working on, when they achieve it they get a sticker and I date it. When it comes time to write reports I can see the last thing they have mastered and their current goal at a glance. Report writing has never been so easy.

A super bonus is that the children can not only speak about their own goals but they are motivated to master new skills as well as being able to see what comes next. Student agency at its best!
