    Narrative Nonfiction

    Session 1: Good test takers tackle fictional passages by using what they know about the story elements. (Shared Experience- Fighting Hunger With a Kick)

    Session 2: Good test takers figure out the main/central idea of a narrative nonfiction text by looking at what repeats and asking, “What is this mostly about?

    Session 3: Good test takers answer part to part questions by thinking about why those paragraphs are there and what they contribute.

    Session 4: Good test takers answer two text questions by thinking about what’s the same and different between the two texts.

    Session 5: TP: Good test takers build their reading stamina by knowing what to do when they become distracted. (Marathon)

    Informational Nonfiction

    Session 1: Good test takers tackle informational nonfiction texts by asking themselves, “What am I learning so far?” and “Why is each part important?” . (Shared Experience- Caring for Kids is in The Bag)

    Session 2: Good test takers answer part to part/whole questions by thinking about why those paragraphs are there and what they contribute.

    Session 3: Good test takers understand the relationship between text features/structures to the whole text by identifying the purpose of each part.

    Session 4: Good test takers infer how and why something happened in the text by looking for places in the text where those things happened.

    Session 5: Good test takers work on their stamina
    by making sure they stay on task with mental breaks if needed. (Marathon)
