Reading Professional Development: KS1 / KS2 Content Domains and Questions

Interactive activity for teaching staff to improve knowledge of the UK reading content domains and explore a range of comprehension question types linked to each content domain.

How I have used this resource

• Successfully used as part of staff insets about the UK English curriculum and reading test frameworks.
• I enlarged and laminated this resource and cut out each question. Staff divided into KS1/KS2 teams and were asked to match the questions to the correct content domains.
• Resource was shared as a whole to show answers and discussed by staff.

How is it useful?

• Consolidates teachers' knowledge of the KS1/KS2 reading content domains.
• Shows teaching staff the different ways that comprehension questions are presented to children in the KS1/KS2 reading tests.
• Allows staff (worldwide) to explore different ways of wording comprehension questions for children in their class e.g. What impression does this give....? What suggests that...?

How can you use it?

• This resource can be used as part of the professional development of teaching staff in a primary classroom.
