What educators are saying

These texts are interesting for the kids. They contain fiction and a matching nonfiction text. Nice product.
This is a great resource, but I particularly love the recording pages. My scholars are using them to set goals for reading fluency and sight words.

    Description

Are you looking for highly engaging early reading fluency passages and centers that will keep your students entertained? These animal early fluency practice sets come with fiction and nonfiction passages and follow-up comprehension questions. This is the first set of "Zoofluency 2" reading passages and activities.

Reading Fluency Passages in this set:

    • Binder or folder cover (boy option and girl option)
    • Fiction tracking graph
    • Nonfiction tracking graph
    • 10 fiction passages + comprehension questions
    • 10 nonfiction passages + comprehension questions
    • [Each passage set comes with a teacher copy and a student copy]

How to use these fluency passages:

    • I suggest doing three reads for each passage.
    • The first read is the cold read because the students have never been exposed to that content before.
    • The second read is what my kiddos call the warm read because it’s practice after their cold read.
    • And the final read is the hot read. This passage has been read and practiced several times and possibly even had comprehension questions answered.

    Fluency Centers in this set:

    • Fluency Phrases
    • Spin-a-Word
    • Timed Reading Activities
    • Sight Word Flash Cards

    How to use these centers:

    • Fluency Phrases- Options for use: 1. Students will work in a group to draw a strip one at a time to read aloud. 2. Students can work with partners to read phrases together. 3. Students can quiz their small group. 4. Students can independently read through these aloud. 5. Keep on a ring for hallway quiet games.
    • Spin-a-Word- Students will use one animal list at a time. For example, the monkey sight word list. They will set a timer, read the list, record how long it took to read the entire list, then repeat two more times.
    • Timed Reading Activities- Options: 1. Students complete with a dry erase marker within a center or small group activity. 2. Print as paper and pencil activity for students to work through with partners or independently.
    • Sight Word Flash Cards- Options for use: 1. Students will work in a group to draw a strip one at a time to read aloud. 2. Students can work with partners to read phrases together. 3. Students can quiz their small group. 4. Students can independently read through these aloud. 5. Keep on a ring for hallway quiet games.
