Description

The short reading passages with key details task card set focuses on reading comprehension skills by reading a short passage to answer one “wh” comprehension question. A picture supports reading comprehension to visually describe the main idea presented in the reading passage.

What is included with this task card set?

· 40 Task Cards

· Suggested IEP Goals

· Task Box Label for Easy Task Box Organization

What age or grade level would you suggest this activity for?

This task card “Task Box Filler” set is intended for students with special learning needs within the following settings: Resource Room/Self-Contained Classroom/Inclusion Services/ELL Students

It’s hard to pinpoint an age group, but rather based upon the student’s abilities. If based upon standards or grade levels (and my own teaching experience), the activity should be introduced mid-to-late 2nd grade (on grade level) up to 5th grade (below grade level). The reading passages are aligned with standards for those grade levels. The teacher or assistant should initially work with the student to increase understanding of what needs to be accomplished, as well as for data collection purposes.

How will this enhance my student’s reading skills?

By reading to identify key details within the reading passage, your students will look closely at the details shown in each picture. The activity allows students to focus on details in a “fun” way. Depending on you’re the students ability to read, focus on task, or provide responses, it is best to limit the number of task cards to ten.

This “Task Box Filler” may ALSO be used as a language activity to ask and answer questions about a topic!

Does this “Task Box Filler” come with IEP Goals?

YES! Here are some suggested IEP goals which align to this activity!

· Given a short reading passage and a picture, STUDENT will retell ONE event or detail, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.

· Given a short reading passage read aloud by an adult and a picture which supports its’ meaning, STUDENT will answer ONE “wh” question to identify ONE detail with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
