Let's face it. Reading passages can sometimes be just a little bit boring. Students can get tired of reading and responding to passages day after day...but not these!!! Your students are going to love these genre focused reading comprehension passages. Each reading passage is written in the style of a different genre. They are a great resource to use when you are introducing genre, or if you are looking for a fun way to change up your typical reading passage routine.

These "What's My Genre?" Reading Passages have tons of fun uses.

  • Use them as a "genre of the day" routine at the start of the school year when you are introducing genre.
  • Create a gallery walk and have students read the passages and guess the genre.
  • Use as mentor texts when teaching about genre (this works for both reading and writing).
