Reading Comprehension Main Idea & Drawing Conclusions SMARTBOARD Scotland Theme

This lesson targets main idea and drawing conclusions while learning a little bit about the country of Scotland. A trip to this area inspired me to use my new knowledge in a reading comprehension activity. The lesson provides 11 different passages - each details an interesting fact or trivia about Scotland. Then the students must determine either the main idea or a conclusion that can be made from reading the passage. So much information that this activity can easily be divided into several minilessons. Use one a day as a warm up. All slides are self checking and easily linked so it can be used as a teacher directed mini lesson, an activity in a small group, or independently in a station or center. Learn all about the medieval times, castles, rulers, and traditions of Scotland. Kids will love the slide about one of the punishments used in medieval times! Created for grades 4-7, but could be used with 3rd grade with guidance.
