What educators are saying

My fourth graders were so excited to do a reader's theater in science. They enjoyed this one very much. I divided the role of Little Iggy and one of the narrators so that every student had a part. I appreciated the differentiated reading roles.

Description

Reinforce the steps of the rock cycle in this funny, fictional reader’s theater! Students in grades 3-5 will be engaged as they observe Little Iggy going through the entire rock cycle from start to finish! The quick wit of the script will have students laughing but at the same time reviewing key facts about igneous rock, sedimentary rock, metamorphic rock, glaciers, weathering, erosion, lava eruptions, cementation, and so much more! Containing 15 parts, EVERYONE will become involved with practice in fluency, expression, and figurative language. Parts are divided among three reading levels (emerging, moderate, and fluent) to ensure confidence for all!

NGSSMS-ESS2-1
Develop a model to describe the cycling of Earth’s materials and the flow of energy that drives this process. Emphasis is on the processes of melting, crystallization, weathering, deformation, and sedimentation, which act together to form minerals and rocks through the cycling of Earth’s materials. Assessment does not include the identification and naming of minerals.
NGSS4-ESS2-1
Make observations and/or measurements to provide evidence of the effects of weathering or the rate of erosion by water, ice, wind, or vegetation. Examples of variables to test could include angle of slope in the downhill movement of water, amount of vegetation, speed of wind, relative rate of deposition, cycles of freezing and thawing of water, cycles of heating and cooling, and volume of water flow. Assessment is limited to a single form of weathering or erosion.
