What educators are saying

I used this with my theater class. The kids enjoyed the story and were able to practice some of the skills we had been covering in class.
We used this during a summer school drama club. The students were anywhere from 2nd-8th grade. These scripts were perfect for a wide range of students. They were the right length to our weekly sessions.

Description

Readers' Theater Collection of Scripts: MOTHER GOOSE INTERRUPTED: In this 8-script collection of fast and funny readers’ theater scripts, Mother Goose is continually interrupted—whether by a confused nursery-rhyme listener, five talking toes, or an irate Mother Hubbard who wants to set the record straight about her empty cupboard. These scripts provide fun fluency practice for students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.

The readers' theater scripts in the collection are based on the following nursery rhymes:

*Hey, Diddle, Diddle (2 readers)

*Hickory Dickory Dock (3 readers)

*Humpty Dumpty (3 readers)

*Little Miss Muffet (2 readers)

*Old Mother Hubbard (2 readers)

*Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake (3 readers)

*This Little Piggy (6 readers)~This script is also available as a stand-alone, FREE download

*Three Little Kittens (4 readers)

Each MOTHER GOOSE INTERRUPTED script is about 3 1/2-pages long and includes a list of “Watch-out words!” This feature highlights challenging words for which students may need help as they practice. These words also make terrific candidates for classroom vocabulary instruction.

For a classroom reading block, readers’ theater can be used as a student-monitored station during small-group instructional time, and Appendix A: Weekly Practice Checklist provides a framework for students’ day-by-day practice. Furthermore, since the number of readers per MOTHER GOOSE INTERRUPTED script ranges from 2–6, this provides flexibility in the grouping of students.

Appendix B provides easy-to-use tickets. Simply write in the time, date, and location of the performance and use the tickets to invite parents, the principal, and others to your students' performance.

Appendix C provides a copy of each of the classic Mother Goose nursery rhymes that underlie the readers' theater scripts.

Additional materials include a basic overview of what readers' theater is, numerous tips and tricks for successful implementation, and a listing of some of the applicable Common Core State Standards for grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.

MOTHER GOOSE INTERRUPTED is ready to provide a fast, funny, and favorite source of readers' theater fluency practice for your students!
