In Reaching Readers Unit 1 Differentiated Alphabet Comprehension Checks, you will receive 3 different levels of alphabet comprehension sheets to build comprehension fluency and skills. These comprehension checks are perfect for assessment of letters and the alphabet. These repetitive and patterned comprehension checks are perfect for your beginning readers! Your students will practice the alphabet and build their phonemic awareness. Students will build their upper & lower case letter identification skills and letter sound to picture knowledge.

These comprehension checks match and coordinate perfectly with Reaching Readers Unit 1 Alphabet Readers available HERE!

Each alphabet comprehension checks included comes in 3 differentiated levels (check out the PREVIEW for a close-up look at the differences!). This means you will have a total of 26 alphabet comprehension checks at each level for a total of 78 printable assessment comprehension sheets! Each check includes simple text with tracking dots, pictures and matching words, stars to color 3 times after repeated readings to build fluency, and appropriate skill questions to match the text. You will especially LOVE how simple to implement and use these comprehension checks are with the reading passage included on each sheet!

About the Reaching Readers Guided Reading Program:

Reaching Readers is a program designed to help teachers with their small group, guided reading instruction. Each unit in this program will contain lesson plans, small group games, assessments, paired texts or readers, fluency activities, and more. Portions of the each unit will be released separately as they are completed. There will be 6 units in total for the Reaching Readers program.

What makes Reaching Readers so special? Every component of this program is DIFFERENTIATED. That means there will be the materials, plans, and activities for 3 or 4 different leveled groups so that you have all the materials you need to teach your small groups.

The Differentiated Alphabet Comprehension Checks included in Unit 1:

Group 1 Alphabet Comprehension Checks:

*Read each passage line by line by tracking the dots and reading the words.
*Read each passage 3 times and color in a star after each read to build fluency.
*Practice printing each upper and lowercase letter along the dotted lines.
*Locate the correct upper and lowercase letters and circle. Each letter appears 4 times.
*Locate the correct upper and lowercase letters and color.

Group 2 Alphabet Comprehension Checks:

*Read each passage line by line by tracking the dots and reading the letter sounds and words given.
*Read each passage 3 times and color in a star after each read to build fluency.
*Locate the 5 words that begin with the letter and highlight.
*Locate the correct picture that begins with the letter sound and color.
*Count the letters in the word provided. Write the number of letters in the box.

Group 3 Alphabet Comprehension Checks:

*Read each passage line by line by tracking the dots and reading the sentences given.
*Read each passage 3 times and color in a star after each read to build fluency.
*Read each sentence frame and finish it with a word that fits and starts with that letter.
*Locate the correct pictures that begin with the letter sound and color.
*Count the number of syllables in a word and circle it.
*Read the sentence and fill in the blank with a word from the pictures below.

WHO is this program for?

Reaching Readers was made for PreK to First Grade. Unit 1 helps develop letter identification skills and phonemic awareness. The alphabet comprehension checks will work great to build, reinforce, and practice skills. This would also work great for homeschooling parents and parents of young children just learning their letters and sounds.
