Summary:

Why is Ramadan called Ramadan? Ramadan is named after the Arabic word "ramad," which means scorching heat or dryness. It is believed that the name reflects the heat of the fasting month, both physically and spiritually.

Significance of Ramadan: Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and holds immense significance for Muslims worldwide. It is a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, obligatory for adult Muslims (with certain exceptions), and is meant to foster spiritual growth, self-discipline, empathy, and gratitude. It is also a time for increased devotion to Allah and acts of charity towards others.
