The objective of the color-changing flower experiment is flowers absorb water through their roots (or the stem in this experiment) and draw it up through the stem and into the petals using capillary action. This experiment creates a fantastic visual result for how plants drink water. After all, your students are so used to water going down
In this lesson, your students will discover how a flower will change color when placed in the colored water.
The lab is written twice so pick which one will be best suited for your students
Make sure you have Fresh white flowers
Lab 1
Materials
Tall Vase to hold the flower upright
Sharp knife
1 Gram FD & C Food dye
100 ML. of water
Ring Stand
Large Beaker
Lab 2
6 plastic baggies
Food coloring (red, yellow, blue, and green)
Water
There is a chart for students to log their observations
