What educators are saying

My students loved this resource for their art lesson! They were engaged in the resource and had no trouble getting started. They particularly enjoyed the YouTube video and made some beautiful pieces of radial relief assemblage art

Description

This sculpture art lesson is a perfect to introduce your middle and upper elementary art students to relief sculptures and radial balance. In this sculpture art lesson, students will create a radial relief sculpture with paper towel or toilet paper tubes, while learning the difference between sculpture in the round and relief sculpture. Students apply understanding of radial balance and color schemes to create a unique low relief sculpture while applying craftsmanship to their finished paper sculpture. In addition students will learn about artist Marisol and her artistic journey. The slides include steps and images to be shown as a reminder or preview of the steps and tips while creating their paper sculpture. They include standards, objectives, vocabulary, materials needed, art critique and information about artist Marisol, step by step directions with images, student examples, and a radial relief sculpture YouTube art tutorial. Featuring the work of artist Marisol, this is the perfect lesson to teach for Women's History Month or anytime of the year!

This lesson requires cardboard cut into 10x10 or 12x12 pieces and many 1/2 segments of paper towel or toilet paper.

It is a perfect "Earth Day" connection on reusing materials to make an assemblage!
