RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER UNIT - poem, study guide, workbook & editable test

Need a complete unit on The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge with lessons and activities that create instant student understanding? A sub without any prep time could supervise these lessons, as all explanations and answers are supplied and the students fill their question responses and drafts directly into their workbook/journal. The strongly visual nature of the resource is an integral component, helping to enrich students’ understanding of the text. A 40 point test PDF at the end of the unit checks for knowledge and comprehension. The test and the test answers PDFs are editable. Due to the terms of use of the artist who created the imagery, the Study Guide is not editable.

--- A brief summary of the main idea of each of the two sections before reading.

The Workbook includes:

--- Most questions require answers of a sentence or two; no simple ‘yes or no’ responses are called for.
--- The mix of analytical and easier factual questions will appeal to a variety of ability levels.
--- The workbook can only be successfully completed AFTER students have both read the poem AND the summary.
--- A few creative activities are included: students have to draw and write short poems.

--- Suggested answers are provided.

The Test includes:

--- 20 multiple choice questions

--- 20 true or false questions

--- An answer key

The test can only be successfully performed after the whole poem has been read and pondered. The quiz PDF and the answers PDF have no password security; you can add, change and remove questions and answers to suit your class's needs.

BONUS: a short fill-in-the-blanks quiz is included (with answers, of course), to help students to prepare for the test. These two PDFs are editable.

PHOTOCOPYING

If you print the poem and Study Guide in glorious color, you can keep them for a generation of learners, while photocopying only the workbook, quiz and test for each student, in utilitarian black and white.
