    LEADERSHIP

These lessons focus on the skill of Leadership, which actually involves several different skill sets. Effective leaders possess strong communication, empathy, collaboration, listening, humor, and many other qualities necessary to command attention, delegate responsibility, set strategic vision, give feedback, manage teams, and take responsibility.

Students will define and write about their favorite leader. Not everyone is a natural leader, and everyone has a different leadership style. Students are not encouraged to all become one image of a leader. Instead, they will explore and test their personality traits, character tendencies, strengths, and fears, to better understand themselves and thereby adapt to leadership situations and demands.

    TIME MANAGEMENT

We all know time management is one of the most challenging skills that ALL people have a difficult time managing and that is why I incorporated this lesson into my classroom.

Students will create and use a Weekly Organizer, and reflect on whether their time management improves over the course of one week of carefully tracking and scheduling their time. You can have students create their Weekly Organizer during one class period, preferably on a Friday, then require them to show you their planner every day for the following week while you move on to subsequent lessons.

You can also make the weekly planner a homework grade to analyze and observe their activity throughout the week. Once students complete this lesson, they become more aware of managing their time more effectively and begin to prioritize the important tasks that need to be completed. THIS IS A WIN, WIN, WIN, for the students!

    ATTITUDE

The purpose of this lesson is to educate students on the importance of having a good attitude and how it affects performance on a daily basis.

The worksheet is simple and easy to fit in any curriculum, especially if you have various students with a negative attitude and it seems as though the class may not be responding to their peers in the most respectful way. This will enable the students to understand how an good attitude provides positive outcomes and will assist in advancing them further on life. This lesson is a WIN, WIN for all!

Performance indicators are listed in the lesson plan.

    ORGANIZATION

    Why Organization Matters

Students must get organized and stay organized in order to prepare for the professional world.

Imagine your supervisor requests a form without warning—you will be expected to access it immediately. Or a colleague might require a piece of work to contribute to a project, and you will need to find it in a timely manner to contribute to the project’s success. At any time, you or a coworker may need to access financial data, emails, correspondences, transactions, bills, contracts, or any number of business records. It only takes a few minutes a day to maintain good organization both at home and in the workplace.

Because organization is a crucial business soft skill, binder checks will be placed among the lessons roughly every two weeks.

There are endless reasons that good organization should be maintained both at home and in the workplace.

Praise for Eva Foxwell’s Methodology and Outcomes

After having one child go through classes with Mrs. Foxwell, I feel she has prepared my child for real life experiences. She is an exceptional teacher. She incorporates real life situations into her teachings. When my eldest daughter went to high school and took a transition class for job hunting and working, the instructor was floored at what she knew how to do. She was asked where she learned how to do a résumé, to interview, and already knew how to start a business etc. The instructor asked my daughter to bring in the work Mrs. Foxwell had her do. After the instructor and another teacher reviewed her work, I received a phone call and was told that Jordan was even more prepared then what they were going to teach her. They said what was taught was at an extremely high standard and couldn't believe it was middle school. Proud BSS Parent

My son has had Mrs. Foxwell for business technology in both seventh and eighth grade.  His experience as a student and my experience as a parent have been nothing but positive. Mrs. Foxwell is energetic and engaging when introducing concepts and explaining ideas; her daily activities encourage students to apply their knowledge and make connections among ideas; and finally, Mrs. Foxwell’s projects take learning to the ultimate level, forcing students to evaluate their knowledge and create top notch projects and assignments. From the business technology perspective, my son is adequately prepared for high school thanks to such an amazing, dedicated, enthusiastic teacher. Proud BSS Parent

Mrs. Foxwell has brought real world experiences directly to our children. My daughter is a more confident public speaker, prepared for interviews, and has an understanding of a day to day business such as; balancing a check book and creating and maintaining a budget for both personal and business expenses.  I wish I had the same opportunities my daughter has had by being a student of Eva Foxwell and Business Technology at Brandywine Springs School. Where do I begin...I honestly cannot say enough about how much Mrs. Foxwell has impacted both my daughters’ education.  My one daughter is now a junior at Wilmington Charter and always says how much Mrs. Foxwell prepared her for High School.   Not only did she teach her about safe technology, but she also prepared her for real life situations. (Public speaking, the importance of eye contact and to always have confidence in yourself). My daughter has matured so much since being in the class, she has gained confidence in herself and her work.  She interviewed for Conrad and DMA and both schools commented on her professionalism. Mrs. Foxwell is by means not an easy teacher, she pushes them to do their best and to be proud of their work and that will follow them for life.  The kids knew they had to be prepared for her class and they were eager to show her. She makes them think and I love that!! She is so passionate about her students and it shows in everything they do. I am so grateful my girls got the opportunity to have her in their lives. Business Technology at BSS has given my son real life, applicable skills that will help him tremendously in his academic and professional life, and have already been invaluable in the high school application process.  Eva Foxwell’s dedication to her students and genuine desire for them to succeed is incredibly impressive; the respect that she so naturally earns from her students truly brings out the best in them. I just wanted to take a moment to praise the Business Technology Program at Brandywine Springs School and its teacher Eva Foxwell.  The students are extremely lucky to have such an experienced instructor who teaches them many beneficial things that will help with all of their future endeavors. In eighth grade they researched prospective high schools and even had a mock interview!  My daughter was confident and well prepared for her high school interviews thanks to Mrs. Foxwell.  We are all very lucky to have her! Business Technology was my child's most difficult and demanding class and by far her favorite.  Ms. Foxwell is very skillful at motivating the children to reach her high expectations by pairing real life skill acquisition with the children's desire to have more responsibility and to be seen as mature and capable young adults. Three of my children benefited from Mrs. Foxwell's Business Technology class by learning life lessons.  My sons, one is a 7th grader and the other a freshman in high school enjoyed the business plans they created helping them with time management and organizational skills.  My daughter, a junior in high school benefited from the resume building skills she learned from Mrs. Foxwell, giving her a head start in her Business class and job search. Proud BSS Parent

Mrs. Foxwell gave my son a confidence I had never seen before! She established a trust with him, but with all her students. She was not just their teacher, she was and is a trusted and safe person they can go and talk to about anything! My son is now in high school and frequently brings up Mrs. Foxwell's class. He shakes the hands of others with confidence and speaks to others with conviction. This is all due to the way Mrs. Foxwell taught them. She gets to know her students (her kids) and their families. I have been very blessed to get to know her and very thankful my son had her as a teacher. Proud BSS Parent

The Business Technology class at Brandywine Springs School is a wonderful class. Eva Foxwell teaches our kids the life skills they may not otherwise learn. They learn the importance of being leaders, from firm handshakes to controlling their monies and their businesses. She makes every aspect of this program fun while holding very high standards for the students. Our students are so lucky to have Eva Foxwell as their teacher. She is passionate about these children and helping them get ahead in life. Both of my sons have had the privilege of having her and both say the same. They love her and her class!! She loves her students and it shows!!! Her motto is like Nike, “just do it!” Every kid remembers that too! My older son, who is in high school, still remembers what she taught and uses some of it now!!! Her strong passion for what she does gives them the passion to come through for her!! This class is so important and I am grateful we have it at BSS!! Proud BSS Parent

Business Technology has given my daughter tools that she will utilize throughout her entire life.  The material is presented in a" Real World" way.  There are direct links made by class as to how this sort of organization and process will help them better succeed and achieve their goals.  For my daughter in particular, learning how to talk to strangers in a professional, confident demeanor was priceless.  She now feels more self-assured and I can see the confidence spilling over into other areas of her academic and extracurricular life. Business Technology is one of the few classes the kids take that offers “real world” experience—resumes, interviews, cover letters, etc.  I have had two children go through Ms. Foxwell’s curriculum, and it has been very clear to me how much she cares about her students.  When my kids tried to coast in her class, she was willing to focus on them individually, and she challenged them to excel and succeed.  It was very evident that she cares about her students as individuals and really wants them to succeed, not just in her class, but in life.
