Description

Depth and Complexity frames are perfect for critical thinking. Combine them with quotes, and you've got a powerhouse thinking activity. Four of the months have writing prompts as well. There are rubrics for the frames and rubrics for the writing prompts. Every month has a frame based on a quote in both color and black/white. They all have rubrics, too.

The set is well organized and has a linked Table of Contents so you can navigate right to the frame or writing prompt you want. The writing prompts are of different types, so students get a broad array of writing practice. You can use them for differentiation for high-ability learners, if you like.

No need to be a Depth and Complexity expert. These frames are ready to use right away, no prep necessary. No, really.

Included in this Depth and Complexity Quote of the Month Frames Resource:

✅ teacher instructions and ideas
✅ rubric for each frame
✅ rubric for every writing prompt
✅ twelve frames based on quotes chosen to invite thinking

✅ all frames are in color and black/white

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Do I have to be a Depth and Complexity expert to use these? Not at all! Depth and Complexity frames can be used by people who are very, very new to the Depth and Complexity framework. In this resource, you'll find a link to find everything I've ever written about Depth and Complexity, so you'll be just fine.
  2. How ready to use are these Depth and Complexity frames? Just print them and hand them out. It's that simple. If your students don't know the framework, just tell them to ignore the little pictures and answer the questions. The small images are in color, but you can print them in black and white, no problem.
  3. Can I leave these ready-to-use frames with a sub? I'd recommend having the students complete one before leaving them with a sub, just so students are comfortable with the format.
  4. How did you choose the quotes? I quotes that would invite high-level thinking, be interesting to students, and, for some months, match the month's theme (such as a quote about luck in March).
