Description

"Somewhere in Your Brain" is a parody of

"Blowin' in the Wind" - Bob Dylan

This all-purpose Quiz Day Song is great for any class, any subject!

Easy enough to sing for a Tenor or Alto; just bump it up/down an octave for Soprano or Bass.

----

I wrote a few parody songs for my students, based on classroom culture, student stress level, or recent content.

Occasionally, I’d put hints and reminders about content into the song, to ensure students would quietly listen while I sang.

On those occasions, of course, I projected the words on the board at the same time, for equitable access.

The great thing was that, while I passed out quizzes and students settled into their cardboard-shielded “cubbies” for exams, they had something to focus on, listen to, and calm them down.

There wasn’t an instant, forced transition from chatting to silence, but it was teacher-focused and teacher-controlled.

They loved it or ignored it (win-win), and the whole class benefitted.

Some students, especially those new to American music/culture or students with musical gifts, appreciated a fun heads up: "Tomorrow's Quiz day song will be based on __[ artist and song ]__."

Enjoy!
