    Description

Get your students engaged with a fun and challenging introductory lesson for the Question-Answer-Relationship (QAR) reading comprehension strategy! Zoom friendly! This detailed lesson plan, PowerPoint and handout is everything you need for a 50 minute lesson. Ideal for English Language Learners of all proficiency levels.

This lesson will enhance their reading comprehension with this strategy that can help them know where to look for answers (to the text, their own knowledge, or combination of both) for varying text questions and lead them to generate their own questions to think deeper about text. Build confidence in students as they realize the value of their prior knowledge as it plays into inferences and reading comprehension. It's a valuable skill that they can carry with them throughout the rest of their education, across subjects, and even apply to math problems. As third graders, they will be taking their first standardized tests and this strategy will give them confidence and a strategic process to follow for such reading and science comprehension test questions.

    Learning target

List the four types of QARs by constructing a poster. Understand that the QAR strategy can help you identify where to find answers to questions. Working in small groups, apply QAR strategy to answer literal and inferential questions about a text and identify how and where the answers were found.
