So often learners don't know which conjunction to use because they either (1) don't know conjunctions have different meanings, (2) don't think closely enough about the meaning of words, or (3) even care that the use the most accurate word. Well, we can't necessarily fix #3, but we can help with #'s 1 & 2.

This PowerPoint is split into 4 grids: Cause & Effect, Adding More, Opposites, and Time. When a Coordinating Conjunction, Subordinating Conjunction, or Conjunctive Adverb pops up on the screen, students will need to think about its meaning and determine which box it needs to go into. Then a sentence appears using the word in that meaning. Some conjunctions with dual meanings have practice sentences for both meanings.

After using this simple review, it's pretty cool to see learners begin to pay closer attention to which word to use.
