About This Resource:

• These CVC rhyming picture matching task cards are perfect for small groups, morning bins, word work, or an independent center activity for fall!
• These are the perfect early literacy game to accompany a pumpkin or fall themed read aloud anytime during the season.

This Resource Includes:

• 10 pairs of picture cards for a total of 20 CVC picture cards
• Recording sheets (one for pairs 1-5 and one for pairs 6-10)
• Picture key

Preparation:

• Print, cut, and laminate picture cards
• Print recording sheets if using

How to play:

• Mix up picture cards. Have children sort the cards to find pairs of pictures that rhyme.
• For example, if they pick up the card with dog on it, they will look for the card with the picture of the log on it since they both rhyme.
• If they are using the recording sheet, they would then go to spot #4 and sketch a dog in one pumpkin and a log in the other pumpkin.
• They would then attempt to write the CVC words beside the pumpkins.

Variations:

• This can be played without the recording sheet if children are not yet ready to write their words and they are only working on rhyming recognition.
• Simply have them match the picture cards together to create pairs.
• FUN TIP: These can also be used as partner cards when you need to pair up students but want them to practice rhyming! Pass them out and let children find their match! (*A few cards may need to be copied and used more than once if you have more than 20 children in your class/group)

Printing Directions:
