What educators are saying

Very engaging activities to help students get a better understanding of sensation and perception. They especially love the Brain Games clips.
I combined this powerpoint with one I had already created, and it helped make it so much more engaging and interesting!

Description

Engage students in Psychology's study of sensation and perception concepts with this fun interactive analysis doc where students learn concepts by playing fun brain games. After completing each of the four brain games, students then learn and record the perceptual concept at the root of the rain game. PowerPoint Slides accompany each brain game and concept for a classroom version, however, a fully independent student version has been added for 2020-21 distance learning where no teacher instruction required. This lesson also works great as a first day lesson to capture students or the independent version works great as an emergency sub lesson. However it is used, students will love this engaging, yet informative activity.

Brain Game 1 - Selective Attention using National Geographic's Brain Games - This Brain Game presents a far greater challenge than the famous gorilla/passing basketball version

Brain Game 2 - Perception of Time with the Oddball Effect - Includes a original version in the PowerPoint and a clip of this concept via Brain Games

Brain Game 3 - Priming (subconscious memory) - Includes an original version in the PowerPoint file and a mind-blowing YouTube version using Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven

Brain Game 4 - Fast vs. Slow Thinking - Contains a quick trivia question, fast thinking illusion game in PPT, and a YouTube video version

Overall, this lesson contains the following -

-Student Brain Games Analysis Google Doc (Version 1 - Classroom Version) - This version is designed to be used in a teacher-guided classroom

-Student Brain Games Analysis Google Doc (Version 2 - Fully Independent Distance Learning Version) - Prompts have been adjusted to simply share with students to complete independently

-Answer Key to Concepts (Google Doc)

-Engaging PowerPoint to guide Classroom Version - Includes 40+ Slides, all teacher directions and links, and several bonus in-class Brain Games

If you enjoy this lesson, the following Brain MythBusters Activity works in a similar style and students also find very engaging!
