Description
Fundamental attribution error: describes the tendency to over-value dispositional or personality-based explanations for the observed behaviors of others while under-valuing situational explanations for those behaviors.
In the lab the students ask their subjects two questions, "Why did Jack hit Larry?" and "Why did you hit Larry?" The students record the responses then analyze them for dispositional or situational attribution.
Included are 4 versions of this lab. Two versions where the responses are more free form, 1 and 1.2, two where the responses are more guided, 1.1 and 1.4. You can decide which version is more appropriate for your students.
The only differences between 1 and 1.2 and 1.1 and 1.4 are the spacing in the tables. I tend to be very frugal and try to use as little paper as possible but this may be a lab where conservation might hinder the research…you decide.
You could even assign just the first page of any version of the lab if you wanted to keep the “research” load lighter.
