Description

Discover the properties of matter using Eggs and simple supplies.
These engaging activities that promote teamwork and scientific discussion. Emphasizes observations, scientific method, and higher-order thinking skills. Teacher background information included. Great for spring and Easter.

Activity 1 is a rally table using balloons to discover the similarities and differences between solids, liquids, and gases. In activity 2 students will use the scientific method to answer the question: Does the state of an egg affect the spin of an egg? Two versions are included: 2nd/3rd grade and 4th/5th grade. Choose the one that works best for your students. The 3rd activity is an egg challenge. The students must challenge an adult to figure out if an egg is hard-boiled or raw. In activity 4 students use what they have learned to discover what is inside a clay ball.

These activities meet the *Next Generation Science Standards Benchmarks:

*2nd Grade: Structure and Properties of Matter

*3rd Grade: Forces and Interactions

*3rd, 4th, 5th Grade: Science and Engineering Practices

Students will enjoy the rally table and getting to work with eggs. Teachers will enjoy watching the students explore and the detailed directions. Adults will enjoy being chosen for the egg challenge. This is a great addition to your matter unit. It can also be used at Easter. Because it contains different grade level materials is works great for a homeschool family.
