What educators are saying

I'll give it 5 stars for the fact that this looked like it took a really long time to make! However, it was a little difficult to use with a smartboard. That said, it is a great source for review games that are not just Kahoot, etc!
This was a great resource. My students really enjoyed it, and this definitely enhanced their understanding. Thanks so much!

Description

You get both the Power Point version and Smart Notebook version with this product! For this to work properly, you must be in SLIDESHOW MODE in PowerPoint.

PURPOSE: This is a fun and interactive "game show" activity that can be used to introduce propaganda techniques, or as a formative assessment to let you know what students understand about propaganda techniques. In this lesson students will analyze a text that includes seven different propaganda techniques and then make a personal connection either from their own experiences, or from text that will help them to make understand each propaganda technique. Then, they will different examine different advertisements and take their knowledge of propaganda and apply them towards the advertisements they view. Students will then tell what propaganda technique was used using evidence from the advertisement, and what the point of the advertisement was. To make this more challenging, students will then explain if a different advertisement technique could have worked, and explain why.

GOALS: Students will be given a handout that will describe each of the seven types of propaganda techniques. You will then make sense of each technique by describing a personal example that you have either experienced, or seen.
Then, you will analyze a type of advertisement and explain what the main purpose of the advertisement is, and using evidence from the advertisement, explain what kind of propaganda technique is being used, explaining your answer.
You will explain why you feel the author would use that technique, and if there is another technique that might have worked better in your opinion, explaining your answer.

MATERIALS: Laptop for pairs of students, or a central computer and Smart Board for whole class.
