Description

**NOTE: This three-project bundle includes both the old version of Archimedes' Bathtub and the NEW updated version of Archimedes' Bathtub! This product will receive updates until all three projects have been upgraded"

This is an all-inclusive unit covering the 3D Geometry aspects of seventh grade mathematics. It is presented in a project-driven format, meaning that students see the skills that must be learned in order to progress their project steps.

Unlike other project-driven formats, this unit provides your students with a choice of THREE engaging projects. All three projects and every skill lesson are seamlessly integrated making it easy for you to provide a creative, hands-on experience for students without the stress of juggling too many choices.

The skills lessons in this unit are largely independent, allowing the student to work with materials and discover the principles of solid nets, cross-sections, surface area and volume. They put these skills into good use in one of these three projects. A colorful map guides the students through their work.

All of these features allow you to step back from teaching and become a guide to your student’s learning. You are able to provide greater assistance to students who need it and each lesson has optional enrichment topics for students who need a challenge.

Other features include:

• Pre-assessment and Post-test so you can gauge your student’s learning

• Portfolio and Presentation directions so you can assess your student’s learning on different levels, not just relying on testing

• Differentiation options for every skill lesson

• Student master copies and answer keys to EVERYTHING

• Colorful student map and easy to follow project organizers so your students can be independent as possible

• Vocabulary activities, writing assignments, and readings to increase your student’s math literacy as well as numeracy

Step out of the ordinary and show every student that math is everywhere!

Projects included in this unit bundle are:

Archimedes Bathtub

Students take a journey into history and the fascinating world of Archimedes. They follow his footsteps as he determines the ratio “pi”, discovers the relationship between a sphere and a cylinder, and helps King Hiero determine the density of his crown! This project integrates history, physics, and mathematics. This project is perfectly suited for your scientific students who are interested in answering the questions “why” and “how” does that work!?!

Plato’s Solids

Again students take a slight journey into history before embarking on their own artistic adventure. Learning the meaningful relationship Plato attributed to these five solids, students will be creating and analyzing Platonic Solids for their volume and surface area. Along the way they will discover other categories of solids such as Archimedean, Kepler, and the brand new discovery Goldberg! This project integrates philosophy, art, and mathematics. This project is perfectly suited for your artistic students and your students who need a lot of work with their hands.

Wrapping our Products

Students learn the tradecraft of online sales and the many aspects that go into a simple shipping box. Throughout this project, students engineer their own shipping box, packaging materials, and even price out their shipping costs. This project integrates finance, business, engineering, and mathematics. This project is perfectly suited for business oriented students and your students who need a lot of work with their hands.
