What educators are saying

My students really enjoyed creating their own music festival. It was easy to work with and get done in a timley fashion. Will use again!
The students LOVED creating their own music festival with their favorite artists. Some of the final presentations were just incredible. Something I will definitely do again with my other groups!

Description

As a kid, there's really nothing better than finding the perfect playground. These days we're seeing more and more unbelievable play areas, and it's time we see what our students create. Project Based Learning Activity: Run A Music Festival

***THIS RESOURCE IS NOW DIGITAL for DISTANCE LEARNING***

See below for more details on using it with Google Slides.

This project integrates elements of problem solving, collaboration, classroom design, and planning as students design their own ultimate playground.

There are 15 activities (most are 1 page for each) for students to complete. Each page involves an issue or topic they must solve, design, create, or research.

What's included:

Page & Contents

7, 8 Introduction

Students are introduced to their objective of creating, organizing, and running a music festival.

9 Brainstorm

Students brainstorm everything they know about music and music festivals.

10 Why A Festival

Students answer questions related to why music is/isn’t important. All questions are geared toward how music affects them.

11 Location and Date

Students decide upon a location and date for the festival. They have to decide if school is a viable option and explain why.

12 Music For a Cause

Students will be using this festival to raise money for a charity or cause. This page is used to brainstorm and discuss options. Then they’ll write why they have chosen a specific cause or charity.

13 Name Brand

Students create a name, logo, and slogan for the festival. These ideas and concepts will be used later on in the PBL.

14 Musical Chairs

The students will look at the needed jobs during the festival and pick classmates to do them.

15 Who Needs Tickets Students create a pricing guide for the festival. Included are full-day, half day, and specialty tickets.

16 Pick the Acts

Students will need to pick 15 acts that will participate and play at the festival.

17-20 Scheduling the Acts

After the acts have been selected, students will now schedule when everyone performs. There are rules and regulations for scheduling, so it’s important for students to be organized and take their time.

-Included are 3 variations of scheduling pages (you may choose which would work best).

-If there is not enough room, allow students to create their schedule on separate paper.

21-24 Supply Run

Students pick supplies and materials they will need for the festival. They have 200 credits to spend and cannot go over. Then they must discuss why they chose items and how they’ll be used.

-There are FOUR PARTS to the Supply Run.

-Students will organize the supplies they bought, look at the data, and answer questions about their purchases. This includes graphing, separating data, and reflecting.

25 VIP Credentials

Student create a one-of-a-kind commemorative VIP ticket. They must include at least six of the the eight items included.

26 Merchandising Students create and design merchandise to be sold in the gift shop.

27,28 Food Stand

Students pick the menu of food, drinks, and sweets that visitors will be able to purchase.

29-32 Festival grounds

Students create a layout for the festival. There are 12 items they must include but are allowed to add as many more as they would like. Maps can be completed on grid paper, but teachers may choose to let students create them on a larger scale (butcher block).

Also included is a Map Key page for students to use.

33 Festigram

Students share pictures (drawings) on the social media app, Festigram.

34-36 Problem Solver

Students are given situations that may occur during the festival, and they must create a plan to solve/fix them.

37 Reflection

Students use a rubric to self-assess themselves on how they did during the activity.

38 Extension

Included are a list of extension ideas to continue this PBL Activity.

39 Alternate Cover

This is a blank cover page with just a microphone. You can replace this and allow students to draw their own band or design their own cover.
