Description

'Tis the season to begin planning for the holidays! It's amazing how much goes into this planning - what to eat, who to invite, how much to buy, how far to travel, and the list goes on! Give your students the opportunity to plan their own Thanksgiving Dinner with this Project Based Learning assignment.

Students will build research and technology skills by determining how far away their relatives live, and finding prices for food items with the use of grocery stores' online shopping apps. Students will use their knowledge of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole and decimal numbers to complete this project.

Throughout this project, students will:

-Create a Guest List

-Create Invitations for their guests

-Determine how far their guests are traveling from

-Determine how much money their guests will have to spend on gas

-Create a menu for Thanksgiving Dinner

-Find recipes to make for Thanksgiving Dinner

-Record recipes

-Determine how much of each ingredient they will need to create each recipe

-Build a grocery list

-Determine how much money their groceries will cost

-Make a plan to set the table based off of number of guests, table dimensions, and amounts of dishes

-Describe why they are grateful for each guest

-Write notes of gratitude to their guests

-Determine who won the Turkey Bowl by solving multi-step word problems

While the amount of time spent on this project will vary greatly by classroom, students who spend roughly 30 minutes a day on this project will need roughly 10-12 days to complete the project.
