⭐ Measure Twice, Cut Once is a project based learning task that involves using Measurement and Geometry to solve problems related to quilt making. This resource contains a standards-based unit in both printable PDF and Google Slides versions - so it's the perfect activity to increase engagement and interest for the classroom or distance learning. Students follow instructions on quilt making while measuring lengths, naming shapes, counting and drawing lines, interpreting data, and more. Additional "challenge activities" engage students and develop further understanding of the concepts and skills.

• 1.MD.A.1 Order three objects by length, compare lengths or two objects indirectly by using a third object.
• 1.MD.A.2 Express length of anobject as awhole number of length units by laying multiple copies of shorter object end to end.
• 1.MD.C.4 Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to 3 categories; ask and answer questions about the data points, how many? and how many more or less? are in one category than in another.
• 1.GA.1 Distinguish between defining attributes vs non-defining attributes;
• 1.GA.2 Compose 2-D shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or 3-D shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape and compose new shapes from the composite shape.
• 1.GA.3 Partition circles and rectangles into 2 and 4 equal shares, describe the shares using words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.
