For this project based learning activity, students incorporate elements of geometry, measurement, and design to create an 18 inch by 24 inch symmetrical paper quilt.
Skills used:
- Geometry - shapes, symmetry
- Measurement - measuring 3 inch by 3 inch squares, measuring an 18 inch by 24 inch piece of poster board, area and perimeter
- Design - students must arrange quilt squares to create an attractive design. They must decide whether to use whole squares or cut them into smaller squares, rectangles, or right triangles. They must also decide on colors and whether to use solid or patterned paper.
