Description

In this challenging activity, students explore multiplying and adding rational and irrational numbers.

  • First students identify numbers as rational or irrational.
  • Then, students use those numbers to create multiplication and addition equations. Once they figure out the equations, a pattern will emerge.

Students will discover that the sum or product of two rational numbers is rational, and the sum or product of a rational and irrational number is irrational.

This inquiry lesson will really get students thinking. It works great for partners.

Answer key is included.
