Description
If you are looking for a no-prep lesson and activity to teach your students about Primary and Secondary sources, this resource is for you! There are printable and digital options of each component of the resource, so you can customize it based upon your needs and preferences!
This resource includes:
- Teacher Guide (PDF)
- Student Handouts (Information Sheets + Worksheets, with an answer key)
- Editable Google Slideshow
- Self-Grading Google Form
- Editable Google Doc version of student handouts
The information sheets and Google Slideshow cover the definition of primary and secondary sources, while also listing out examples of each type of source. There is also a selection of five questions students can use to determine if a source is credible or not.
The primary and secondary sources worksheet + Google Form provides examples of source types, and students must decide whether they are a primary or secondary source. Example source types in the activity include: The Declaration of Independence (primary), a world history textbook (secondary), or your teacher describing how Alexander the Great conquered parts of three continents (secondary).
Another worksheet provided in this resource is a bonus Source Analysis Chart, which can be a helpful tool for students when they are working on a research paper or assignment. This can be used at any point during the year, not just in conjunction with this primary and secondary sources activity!
When teaching, we recommend that you go over the Google Slideshow or information sheet with your students first, give them time to work on the provided worksheets and/or Google Form, and then correct/discuss their answers.
