THE LESSON
This introductory lesson all about prepositions will define and categorize the words, explain when to use them, and explain what makes up a prepositional phrase and what does NOT.
The video is 23 minutes but the entire lesson should take you about 30 minutes, as you will press pause a few times during the lesson when you see the icon appear on the screen. While paused, the students will interact with the lesson by discussing with you and their peers what they notice about sentences containing prepositions. They will also be given time to take notes in their (included) interactive activity about prepositions.
Finally, they will show what they have learned from the lesson during an interactive portion at the end of the video. They will hold up (included) cards to show if they believe the underlined word in a sentence is or is NOT a preposition.

WHEN SHOULD I USE THIS LESSON?
This interactive lesson is perfect to use during your writing time. The lesson should take about 30 minutes. At the end of the lesson, I wrap up with a "Your Turn" challenge, which would be appropriate to lead into some independent writing time where they practice what they have learned.
Do you use Mentor Sentences in your classroom? Use this introductory lesson during your writing time to help introduce adjectives the week before focusing on mentor sentences where you work with prepositions and prepostional phrases!
