Description

Having a solid understanding of prefixes, suffixes, and roots is imperative when it comes to helping our students build a strong vocabulary. This set of three worksheets provides many opportunities for your students to interact with five common prefixes. Repetition is key to retention, and this worksheet packet contains a variety of exercises where your students will write the meaning of each prefix again and again. Furthermore, any of these engaging worksheets can be used as a pretest or posttest to check your students' understanding of these five basic prefixes. This resource is ready for you to just print and go!

  • The first worksheet includes 20 words. Most of the words contain prefixes, but a few of the words do not (e.g. uncle, missing, recent). The directions instruct students to split the word into two boxes (one for the prefix and one for the base word), and then write the meaning of the prefixed word in the right margin space.

  • The second worksheet consists of 16 sentences. Students must circle the prefixed words, and then write the meaning of each word on the line. A few of the sentences include more than one prefixed word. When your students complete this worksheet, they will have identified the meanings of 35 words.

  • The final worksheet features a friendly letter. Students must try to find all of the prefixed words that begin with mis, dis, un, re, or pre. Then, they write the meaning of each word on the lines beside the letter.

Prefixes include:

un-

re-

pre-

mis-

dis-

Answer keys are included.

Here's what teachers like you had to say about using these worksheets with their students:

⭐️ Christine C. said, "Perfect resource to teach prefixes! My students found these sheets engaging and easy to complete independently."

⭐️ Sara W. said, "These worksheets were great for breaking apart the prefixes and reviewing meaning. They liked how only a few prefixes were covered so there was more time to focus on the specific ones in the activities."

⭐️ Kathleen R. said, "This was an amazing resource for my students. As an interventionist I only get a small part of their day to work with them and it had them engaged, focused, and making connections!"

⭐️ Myra L. said, "This has proven to be a great resource for morning work. Simply print and go!!"

⭐️ Constance C. said, "This was a great resource for teaching and reviewing prefixes. I love that it has a digital option... This helps me reach everyone with the same material! Highly recommend!"
