    Description

    These Prek STEM exploration activities are designed to help your students think outside the box and learn how the world works. These STEM lessons help young learners explore, plan, and create using common, everyday materials.

    The PreK STEM Exploration Process:

    Present the STEM exploration specific to each topic.

    STEM Explorations included in this bundle:

    September:

    • School Bus Exploration: Help your bus driver by building a school bus that can roll.
    • Puppy Leash Exploration: Using a single piece of paper, create a leash for Pogo.
    • Crayon Box Exploration: Build a sturdy container that will hold your crayons.
    • Playground Slide Exploration: Build a slide for the playground that is both safe and fun.

    October:

    • Pumpkin Exploration: Use materials to build a path for your pumpkin to follow as you roll it to your home.
    • Halloween Exploration: Use materials to help Ghostie the Ghost quickly fly straight back home.
    • Bats Exploration: Use materials to help your bat hang upside down without falling.
    • Spiders Exploration: Use materials to help build a new web home that the itsy bitsy spider will stay on.

    November:

    • Fall Mobile Exploration: Build a mobile that balances using items found in nature.
    • Football Exploration: Push the football on different surfaces so it lands in the goalpost.
    • Thanksgiving Dinner Exploration: Use materials to build table legs that will be strong enough to hold a can of vegetables.
    • Turkey Exploration: Use materials to build a sturdy enclosure that traps Tom Turkey who is trying to run away from Thanksgiving dinner.

    December:

    • Gingerbread Man Exploration: Use the materials to build a bridge for the gingerbread man to cross the river.
    • Christmas Countdown Exploration: Use paper to make a countdown chain that has exactly 12 links.
    • Santa's Sleigh Exploration: Design a sleigh for Santa that will hold the load of presents and can slide a long distance down a hill
    • Elf Shelf Exploration: Build a sturdy shelf for Santa's elf to sit on when it visits your classroom.

    January:

    • Hibernation Exploration: Build a den for a bear, which has an opening big enough to get in and out and will last during a storm.
    • Snowball Launcher Exploration: Build a way to launch a snowball farther than the other kids.
    • Break the Ice Exploration: Build a pendulum and explore ways to make it knock down a wall of ice.
    • Snowflake Exploration: Construct a model of a snowflake that has six sides or points and fits in the hexagon.

    February:

    • Groundhog Shadow Exploration: Find a way to make a shadow for Groundhog.
    • Valentine Mail Exploration: Fly your Valentine letter through the air so it lands in the Air mailbox.
    • Candy Hearts Exploration: Build the tallest structure you can with candy hearts.
    • Lincoln's Hat Exploration: Find a way to fit the most sheets of paper into Lincoln’s hat.

    March:

    • Fly a Kite STEM Exploration: Design a kite that can fly in the wind.
    • Build a Basketball Hoop STEM Exploration: Use the materials to create a basketball hoop.
    • Build a Boat for Leprechaun STEM Exploration: Build a boat that can hold as many coins as possible without sinking.
    • Build a Rainbow STEM Exploration: Create a model of a rainbow that will stand up on its own.

    April:

    • Easter Egg Drop STEM Exploration: Build a way to keep the egg from cracking if it is dropped.
    • Keep the Bunny Out of the Garden STEM Exploration: Build a way to keep the bunny out of the vegetable garden.
    • April Showers STEM Exploration: Design a way to keep the kid dry while playing in the rain.
    • Recycling (Earth Day) STEM Exploration: Recycle old materials to create something useful for your classroom.

    May:

    • Insect STEM Exploration: Construct a model of an insect that includes all three body parts, legs, and antennae.
    • Flower Pot Plant STEM Exploration: Make a pot that will help a flower grow.
    • Bird Feeder STEM Exploration: (coming soon!)
    • Time Capsule STEM Exploration: Seal a time capsule to safely hold all your memories from this year.

    Materials Needed:

    We've included a list for material recommendations, but these explorations can be done with materials you have on hand such as paper, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, paper towel tubes, tape, etc.
