    Description

Pre-writing skills are those skills that toddlers and preschoolers learn in a developmental sequence that help them develop hand muscles and dexterity to draw, copy and form letters for handwriting.  Just like children need to walk before they can run, they need to master pre-writing skills before having legible and efficient handwriting by the time they go to school.

Little hands should be exploring. Opening, closing, sticking, pasting, experimenting with paint, playdough, and different mediums. Above all, they should be playing to develop gross motor skills, postural stability, and hand skills that will support developing a functional pencil grasp.  If a child is allowed to create, play, and develop these early pre-writing skills, they will be able to cut, paste, color, and draw by the time they start formal education and quickly learn to write and form their letters with formal instruction.  Little hands need to grow and develop!

We have put together a resource with some pre-writing activities to support those teachers and parents who would like to support the development of handwriting skills and school readiness.  The bundle consists of the follow resources and is suitable from ages 3 to 8 years:

    - Playdough Fun

    - Pre-writing lines (tracing)

    - Pre-writing lines and activities to develop pencil control

    - Fine Motor activities to develop pencil control.

    - Tricky Fingers Fine-motor activities

    - Cutting Skills Volume 1

These resources can be bought individually or as part of a bundle. It includes a wide variety of activities developed by an occupational therapist and aims to support early development. Activities are easy to use and lots of fun.
