    Description

Make teaching expanded notation easy with this explicit, scaffolded lesson and practice slides. Students can relate expanded form to expanded notation up to the thousandths. Teacher and students can show exanded notation in decimal and fraction form.

Then, your students will be motivated to practice and demonstrate their understanding using the Missions Handout and Tallest Lego Tower Game with table groups or small groups. The slides provide student directions and visuals for an easy explanation.

Your students will be eager to keep playing and remember this STEM activity, even for the most reluctant learner. Progression number cards or any pre-printed decimal can be used to keep the game going!

Slides and handouts can be modified to go up to the hundredths or adding more questions.

    Materials Needed:

    Measuring cups

    Legos

Printed Handout per group or partnership

Envelopes (secretive mission theme, if you choose)
