Description

Your students will sing their way to mastering the elements/structure of informational and opinion writing with the upbeat, fun lyrics I’ve written to go along with the popular song “Keep Your Head Up” by Andy Grammer. By using the lyrics, simple diagrams/graphic organizers, and some tried-and-true teaching techniques, your students will be able to organize their writing and ensure they’ve included all the required elements with much greater ease. Plus, your students will love these songs! I hear them singing them outside of class--great reinforcement! Everything is here for you, ready to go!

*The link to the song on YouTube and how I use the chorus to teach the lyrics
*Two original song posters—with lyrics for informational and opinion writing. Just enlarge the posters to the size you’d like! Lyrics for informational writing include these elements: introduction, body, main ideas, details from the texts/sources, and a conclusion. Lyrics for opinion writing include: introduction, opinion statement, reasons, details/explanation from the texts/sources, and a conclusion.
*The diagrams I use to go along with the lyrics to help students see the simplicity: what the elements are and how they are organized. All of this helps them understand these text structures inside and out.
*Teaching outlines of how I use the song lyrics, diagrams/graphic organizers, and other simple tried-and-true techniques to help students master the structures/elements.
*A link to other free resources I’ve produced for opinion and informational writing: specifically for teaching quality introductions and conclusions for both text types.
