Description

Poetry Terms Presentation with Song Lyrics Examples: Song lyrics are one of the easiest ways to teach poetry terms/devices such as alliteration, metaphor, simile, personification, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, irony, and rhyme.

This IS included in my mega bundle: ALL of my POETRY RESOURCES GROWING BUNDLE.

This zipped file contains three pdf presentation files. The teacher's file contains a presentation to introduce each term, define it, and gives examples of each one. Then is uses Daughtry's song "Life After You" to point out different devices.

A student file has a handout for the students to take notes during the presentation, plus an assignment to find examples in three additional songs: Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth," Augustana's "Boston," and Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova." Songs are included in the files. The answer key is in the teacher's file.

After the practice exercises, students are assigned to make their own presentation with their choice of song lyrics. The third file is an example of a student presentation for Iyaz's "Replay."

The teacher's key also has a sample rubric and student handout for the presentation assignment that can be copied into a word processing document and changed to fit your needs.

This is a great unit to teach any time of year, or save it for National Poetry Month in April.
