Description

Are you searching for poetry activities that can be used to introduce poetry terms and elements and poetry writing to your students in a way that will grab their attention? You've come to the right place! This bundle includes two poetry PowerPoints, poetry worksheets, a flipbook where students write their own poems, and more! Are you looking for a complete poetry unit where everything is already done for you? This just might be the poetry resource you're looking for!

My favorite component of this bundle is the poetry PowerPoints. PowerPoints filled with visuals are ideal for teaching new content to students because PowerPoints tend to be highly engaging and concepts can be easily broken down into understandable chunks of information. But let's face it... they are so time-consuming to create! Fortunately, now you have an option of using one that is already complete, kid-tested, and ready to go for you!

Here's what you'll get in this poetry bundle!

1. 15-16 days of LESSON PLANS!

2. A 48-slide PowerPoint (Part 1 with Mrs. Stanza) POETRY BASICS

  • poetry vocabulary
  • poetry structures
  • figurative language in poetry
  • identification of rhyme patterns (rhyme schemes)
  • rhythm and meter

3. A 67-slide PowerPoint (Part 2 with Mr. Stanza) WRITING POETRY

  • imagery
  • bio poem
  • concrete poem
  • diamante
  • acrostic
  • haiku
  • ode
  • limerick
  • cinquain
  • clerihew
  • free verse

4. THREE poetry passages with multiple-choice comprehension questions (ideal for test prep!)

5. Interactive Notebook pieces

6. Introduction to Poetry PowerPoint Companion (to accompany the Part 1 PowerPoint) (You get to choose whether to use the print version or the Google Slides version.)

7. Poetry Handouts (to accompany the Part 2 PowerPoint)

8. Poetry Flipbook (Students may write their final drafts of their favorite poems in here!)

In April 2020, I added a new layer to this bundle. Now, nearly all of the pieces are available in a DIGITAL format. The digital activities are compatible with Google Slides and Google Forms. (The only item that is not available in a digital format is the flipbook.)

Teaching poetry has never been so easy!!

⭐️ Lydia P. said, "If you're looking for a FANTASTIC poetry bundle, look no further! I teach fourth graders, and these resources are phenomenal!"

⭐️ Rachel T. said, "We didn't have a lot of time for poetry this year due... I was looking for a resource that could help me teach it quickly and keep students engaged. I love Deb Hanson's resources already, but this one was fantastic. My students loved the writing part of it and they came up with some great poems!! I will always use this for teaching poetry in the future. Great resource!"

⭐️ Kathy H. said, "This made our poetry unit fun and easy! Even kids that are afraid of poetry and dislike it were excited to write poems using this lesson!"

If you're looking for more poem passages to help prepare your students for the poetry found on standardized tests, you might want to check out my reading passages resource by clicking HERE.
