What educators are saying

I used this with my mixed grade enrichment students. They enjoyed the challenge and liked that it was not a "boring worksheet".
I used this activity after my classes had finished their standardized testing. It was a fun way to combine geography and math.

Description

Engage your middle school students in an exciting and interactive learning experience as they master the skill of reading and plotting points on a coordinate plane.

This drag and drop activity takes them on a virtual journey to iconic cities around the world while reinforcing these essential mathematical concepts.

Get ready to captivate your students with this ready-to-use digital escape room!

Your students will embark on a thrilling adventure as they "visit" four fascinating cities: Sydney, St. Petersburg, London, and San Francisco.

To travel from one city to another, they must successfully solve a series of 40 problems. The problems are divided into two categories, with 20 focused on reading points on the Cartesian plane and 20 on plotting points using an interactive drag and drop feature.

After completing each game, they will find a link that will take them to another location.

With the Coordinate Plane Review | Around the World Escape Room, your students will:

  • Strengthen their ability to read and interpret points on the Cartesian plane.
  • Enhance their skills in accurately plotting points on the Cartesian plane using the engaging drag and drop activity.

This digital escape room is a comprehensive and captivating learning resource that promotes active student engagement and reinforces critical mathematical skills. With its easy accessibility and interactive nature, it is an ideal addition to your teaching toolkit.

This activity is designed to work on laptops, tablets, or smartphones which makes it accessible to any of your learners and students!

Since this escape room is online (interactive pages), there is no prep; just provide the link, and off they go!

There are no locks to configure or clues to hide—everything you need is online. No Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams logins are necessary.

If they need to complete it on different days they just have to save the address at the top of the page and they will start back right where they left off.

Due to the Terms of Use of the font/clip artists and stock photo websites that I have purchased from, this product is not editable. Thank you for understanding.

Standards

Understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values (e.g., temperature above/below zero, elevation above/below sea level, credits/debits, positive/negative electric charge); use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation.
Understand a rational number as a point on the number line. Extend number line diagrams and coordinate axes familiar from previous grades to represent points on the line and in the plane with negative number coordinates.
Recognize opposite signs of numbers as indicating locations on opposite sides of 0 on the number line; recognize that the opposite of the opposite of a number is the number itself, e.g., -(-3) = 3, and that 0 is its own opposite.
Understand signs of numbers in ordered pairs as indicating locations in quadrants of the coordinate plane; recognize that when two ordered pairs differ only by signs, the locations of the points are related by reflections across one or both axes.
Find and position integers and other rational numbers on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram; find and position pairs of integers and other rational numbers on a coordinate plane.
