What educators are saying

This was a great resource that I used when I pushed into a classroom. The activity was a hit with my students.
I used this resource to assist in teaching a mini-unit on Game Playing! Great differentiated resource.

Description

Playing games involves valuable social and sportsmanship skills. This packet includes a social story and activities to teach your students how not to be a sore loser and a variety of other pertinent social skills. This comprehensive packet teaches multiple social rules involved in playing board games, games on electronics, video games and outdoor games. This packet is geared for K-5 and the teaching story uses actual photographs of students in elementary school. All of the activities are tiered so you can have an activity for all the skill levels! A perfect addition to your social skills groups, p.e. class or to accompany school-wide sports initiatives or events.

Here's what is included:

  • An 8-page color teaching story about the social rules involved in playing games that feature real photographs, This is recorded in EASEL.
  • 2 youtube links to clips about how to be a good sport and tiered activities to accompany the links, EASEL has direct links to the clips.
  • 32 emotion cards (full body), color for a go fish or memory game so you can then practice the skills you have taught your students, (this isn't in EASEL)
  • 20 "goal" or "penalty" cards (label the behavior on the cards), digitalized in EASEL.
  • Change the language from poor sport to good sport, digitalized in EASEL.
  • 9 pages of visuals or mini posters for reference or to hang up in your room,

included in EASEL for discussion or presentation.

  • Soccer reinforcer multiple options, (color and black and white) with accompanying soccer balls that list the social skills involved in playing a game, including: Smile, let your friend choose the game, wait for your turn, be a graceful loser, don't brag about your skills, don't tease others if they make a mistake, give compliments, use a friendly tone of voice, follow the rules of the game and congratulate the winner. This is not digitalized.
  • 2 versions of "good sport" checklists, digitalized in EASEL.
  • Three game playing scenarios with photographs (related to bragging when winning, having to go first and getting angry when you lose) along with 2 sets of tiered activities that work on comprehension of the material, making an inference, perspective-taking and more!
