What educators are saying

My students loved having the colorful images to connect fossils/ organisms with where they are and were located. we liked the images of Pangaea and how they could fit together.

Description

Meet the ULTIMATE Super Continent! PANGAEA! Come experience an in depth tutorial and analysis of Pangaea, its before, and its after. A variety of fun and engaging pedagogical strategies (some you have probably never seen before) including:

-Puzzle construction: colorful with differentiated symbols to denote: cynognathus fossils, mesosaurus fossils, glossopteris fossils, lystrosaurus fossils, young rock formations, and old rock formations. Using a color/symbol coded key students assemble a dynamic and content rich puzzle designating Pangaea and the evidence for continental drift as presented by German meteorologist Alfred Wegener.

-Terminology with correlating vocabulary definitions AND images

-Fossil matching (mapping activities)

-Continent identification and Pangaea

-Theoretical world mapping: pre-Pangaea, Pangaea, post-Pangaea, and beyond modern times. Contains time period summaries with corresponding images

This works well for any level but is GREAT for special education students or college prep learners that need an alternative assessment and may not be great at traditional labs.

Also, perfect for homeschooling!

WIDE RANGE OF ABILITY LEVELS! The application to a diverse body of learners, whether it be age or ability level, is predicated on the fact that the instructor determines the difficulty level of the whole activity or part of the activity based on what information is given and what information is not as well as how verbal questions are presented to the student(s).

This is a thorough and DYNAMIC activity that covers a ton of information about Pangaea and continental drift. This has been used as a pre-class, lab/activity, study guide, review, and assessment. This is an effective teaching tool one on one, in small groups, and as a class when using a Smart Board/Promethean Board/Projection.

A guaranteed hit all around!

A great addition to your geology teaching library.

Within the classroom, this activity was consistently very successful and acclaimed by students in grades 5th – 9th within multiple schools - public, private, and charter schools in a multiple states.

This work has also been shared at workshops, in-services, and conferences.

It's really lots of fun for all learners and students in grades 3 - 9; even adults!

Great feedback from students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

Positive feedback from teachers in New York State as a preparation for the Regents Exam.
