What educators are saying

This lab was enjoyed by both students and associates. It was a clever and engaging way to demonstrate the movement of tectonic plates.

Description

EAT YOUR PLATES AND YOUR ASTHENOSPHERE! Graham cracker based plate tectonic boundaries lab. A dynamic tutorial on plate boundaries and model manipulation that kids LOVE! You can eat it too!

Loaded with COLOR and IMAGES!

This is a can’t miss lab! You can use the images provided OR use actual lab materials to mimic the lab procedure provided!

This lab includes the following:

-Terminology-asthenosphere, lithosphere, plate boundaries, convergent, divergent, transform, oceanic crust, continental crust, mid ocean ridges, ocean trenches, folded mountains, volcanic mountains, collision boundaries, sliding boundaries, fault lines, and subduction zones
-World map: labeling plate boundary types
-Modeling plate boundaries with edible lab materials
-Detailed lab procedure that allows students to conduct the lab with or without actual lab materials
-Conclusion questions after each section

This edible lab has a knockout procedure covering geologic principles in a variety of ways including hand motion, terminology, and features. Conclusion questions make connections between terminology, lab modeling, and actual geologic/geographic features.

THIS IS A MUST HAVE!

This works well for any level but is GREAT for special education students or college prep learners that need an alternative assessment and may not be great at traditional labs.

Also, perfect for homeschooling!

WIDE RANGE OF ABILITY LEVELS! The application to a diverse body of learners, whether it be age or ability level, is predicated on the fact that the instructor determines the difficulty level of the whole activity or part of the activity based on what information is given and what information is not as well as how verbal questions are presented to the student(s).

This is a thorough and DYNAMIC activity that covers a ton of information about plate tectonics. This has been used as a pre-class, lab/activity, study guide, review, and assessment. This is an effective teaching tool one on one, in small groups, and as a class when using a Smart Board/Promethean Board/Projection.

A guaranteed hit all around!

A great addition to your geology teaching library.

Within the classroom, this activity was consistently very successful and acclaimed by students in grades 4th – 9th within multiple schools - public, private, and charter.

This work has also been shared at workshops, in-services, and conferences.
