Modified earthquake epicenter lab in which students use data from 3 seismograph stations to determine the location of the earthquake epicenter.
Fun and step by step walkthrough to make evaluating the seismograph data smooth and successful. On a map of the United States, students determine the earthquake epicenter distance from Breckenridge, Colorado, Black Rock Desert, Nevada, and Nogales, Arizona. After each station, students determine if the earthquake epicenter can be determined culminating in a location after 3 trials.
Modified for students in earth science classrooms. Used for special education, college prep practice, and college prep alternative assessment.
This is an effective teaching tool one on one, in small groups, and as a class when using a Smart Board/Promethean Board/Projection.
A guaranteed hit all around!

Cut and paste or Velcro and laminate for special education applications and alternative assessments.
Within the classroom, this activity has been consistently very successful and acclaimed by students in grades 4th – 8th within multiple types of schools - public, private, and charter.
Great feedback from parents, teachers, administrators, and curriculum field professionals.
Applicable to many state science assessments and benchmarks.
Has been applied to state mandated North Carolina end of year tests for science in grades 5 and 8.
Even used by teachers in New York State as a preparation for the Earth Science Grade 9 Regents Exam.
