What educators are saying

I've always wanted to have my students plan a party and this was a great way to relate the real world into math.

Description

This project is designed for 4th-6th graders who need practice adding and subtracting decimals.

Students will create a menu their Thanksgiving meal. The menu needs to include a turkey, 2 side dishes, 2 vegetables, a dessert, and a beverage.

Once the menu for the meal is created, students will need to look through local grocery ads to shop for the food items they will need. Assume that utensils, basic spices, condiments, etc. are already purchased.

Students will have fun creating a menu and shopping for the items they will need while practicing adding and subtracting decimals.

I’ve included the editable word document with directions and how students will be graded.

**It is up to you if you want your students buying other items instead of Turkey- i.e. tofurky, ham, etc. You can change that up if you wish. Also, you can set the weight that you want the turkey to be. If your students haven't learned to multiply decimals, keep the weight low so they can easily add the price per pounds together for however many pounds the turkey is.**

Enjoy and have a Happy Thanksgiving :)
