What educators are saying

I used this during a library lesson and the students really enjoyed it. We were only able to do 1 of the reader’s theaters, but they really want to do another one after spring break!

Description

Students participate in 1-3 different reader’s theaters that define plagiarism and its consequences, use a flow chart to determine when to cite and create their own scenarios to analyze.

Included: 3 scripts, flow chart, lesson plan with Common Core standards and VA SOLs, rubric, review games and online quiz and how to do reader’s theater and use the Jigsaw method. Students can write their own court case based on additional scenarios included in the packet.

This lesson combines English reading and writing (and some Civics) SOLs. It encompasses lower level intellectual processes of recall and comprehension as well as providing opportunities to apply and create (higher order thinking) skills in a tiered lesson format.

Script 1: Students discuss what is and isn’t plagiarism and its consequences (all ages)

Script 2: Emma Steal is on trial for plagiarizing Dr. Wrightwell’s work (older students)

Script 3: Students become the jury for these three copyright violation court cases (all ages)
